The Schuneman Symposium: Keith Jenkins
By: Kali Borovic
Keith Jenkins, Supervising Senior Producer for Multimedia for NPR, will be giving a presentation at this year’s Scuneman Symposium titled, “Developing a Visual Identity, with Audio.”
His presentation will be Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10:30-11:50 in the Baker Center Theatre and, Jenkins said, will be focusing on “the concept of being conversant across a lot of different discipline within visual and audio storytelling.”
“Students should broaden their horizons on what skills they’re going to need to be successful journalists, Jenkins said. “(They) may not need to do each, but (they) need to understand when one is more appropriate than the other.”
Narissa Young, instructor at Ohio University and person in change of the logistics of the symposium, is excited to hear Jenkin’s perspective on the changing world of new media.
“Everything is visual today, and I think (this) gentleman (is) going to really bring a lot of expertise and a lot of context and perspective into how we are presenting and packaging news today and that it must contain a lot of visual elements to it,” Young said.
She is also looking forward to learning something herself.
“I’m going as a student, as well,” she said. “To learn from these folks because I’m teaching it and we just need to know these things.”
